I don't have much to say here- this could be my Hanukkah/Christmas wish list! How cute is that pajama shirt? I would probably wear it day and night.
On a less material note, I love this quote. It's corny, but the reason I love it so much is that it reminds me of my grandma! She's just like Audrey and she's a very elegant woman! She has that air about her that some women from older generations have- grace- or something, I suppose. I love my grandma so much. I'm fortunate for having her in my life, especially because my relationships with other family members are tense or nonexistent. I have a very messy background.
Most of my grandparents are dead- my maternal grandmother is my only surviving grandparent, but my relationships with my grandparents have been positive, which is a good thing, because particularly my mother's parents, were responsible for a lot of my upbringing.
So, moral of the story,
grandparents are special people.

Timid with Pink

I don't know if it's managed to escape your notice or not, but I'm kind of a tomboy...
True life.
I'm playing with pink a little. I've discovered that it's actually a really flattering color on me. Well, light pink is. Not hot pink. Very light baby pink really works well for me. Redhead problems? Or redhead not problems? So I'm very cautious with pink. One thing I'm really loving is pink and grey as a color combo (reference fair isle sweater).
I would so wear this outfit.
I wish I had a secret admirer to send me bow jewelry.
Just kidding. That would be weird.
More weird than me wanting a secret admirer to send me a horse? Oh I can't explain my behavior at all. (Ok, but seriously, I'd love a horse.)

All Weather Wear
One thing I've figured out from long drives on the turnpike from Pittsburgh to Boston (that's about 12 hours, ladies and gents. 11 if you don't stop at all) is that once you get about an hour north of New York City the weather starts to get unpredictable.
This week is a great example. I've been freezing, sweating, and freezing again all within one 12 hour period.
It's pretty warm today.
How's anyone ever supposed to know what to wear?
That's my one complaint with beautiful New England. And, as my friends from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine like to say, this is just Boston. The weather down here is balmy.
I don't know about that one...
Anyway, I've got down a pretty good system at this point. It goes sort of like this, jeans, tank top, flannel, tennis shoes, stick a cardigan in my backpack in case it gets really cold and need an extra layer.
Flannels are pretty useful and you can pretty much get them anywhere (just make sure, if you live somewhere cold, to buy a flannel shirt, and not a plaid which can look really similar but is much thinner). I'm pretty sure my favorite was a gift from a friend, but I think she got it at Marshalls or JCPennys. Also, I have a few of my dads, which require a lot more layers underneath, being that they're huge.
Jeans the one in this set (which, I am dying for) are from Sierra trading post. I hate buying jeans though, because they're nearly always too big or if they're not too big, they're way to low cut. Hello. I HATE LOW CUT JEANS. This is why a lot of my jeans are from children's departments. Particularly the boys.
True story: One of my friend was like "no wonder your jeans are too big for you, they're a (size) 14."
and i was like "yeah, thats a children's size"
so I bought a 12 from target and everybody was happy.
The end.
But that was a total tangent.
Also, belts are great.
For, see above reason.
I like d-ring belts because depending on the day and how you're feeling you can make it tighter or looser or whatever.
I basically only own ribbon belts. So yes, they're very preppy- looking.

Superga I just got these tennis shoes on a great sale and I am totally in love with them. They're comfy and cute and my favorite color, which happens to go with my mint
Jackie Cardigan (jcrew) This is pretty thin, so I like to keep it in my backpack. If the flannel is too heavy and I still want a layer, this is perfect, or if I want something between my flannel and arms (sometimes that's too itchy) this'll work and keep me extra warm.
Like Mom always says, "You need to layer!"
Speaking of backpacks , I am in LOVE with this Victorinox one which is totally "borrowed" from my mother, but it fits all my stuff and is super comfy and doesn't look too kiddy, which is always a plus. When you're me, anyway.

I Hide in Libraries and Movie Theaters
Ok, Maybe not all summer.
I do outdoor yoga sometimes. I took my dog to for a walk and we swam in the lake this afternoon. But mostly, I am NOT a summer girl. This probably has a lot to do with being a ginger. Summer sun is way too much for transparent skin. Even if that skin is covered in many, many freckles. So sometimes, I gotta take cover. Here's another kind of weird thing about me. I hate wearing short sleeves and shorts. I wish it was cold enough all the time for me to wear long sleeved shirts and pants. I think this is because, again, I'm pale and I'm kind of long legged/long armed so I feel like a little kid when I wear shorts. Three quarter length sleeves are my favorite. I do wear shorts in the summer. My converse go with everything, and these shorts look super comfy.
Diet Coke is a must have. Always. Movie theater OR library. Sunglasses for the way there. (Did you notice that these are crew sunglasses?) Also, I really like Honeysuckle tinted Burts Bees Lip Balm. Actually, I like any Burts Bees Lip Balm. Or anything else, for that matter. I'm trying out Burts Bees acne solutions to see how that works. I'll let you know

fall days
I love fall so much! It is my favorite, favorite, favorite season. Everything perfect happens in fall: It's a new school year, fall rowing season is so much fun (Head of the Charles), Halloween, Thanksgiving, and New England is beautiful in the fall. Actually, even Pittsburgh wasn't too bad in the fall. But Boston's really something else in October.
Oh right, then there's fall clothes. Revamping my wardrobe for back to school is possibly my favorite activity ever. There's going to be more and more polyvore sets preparing for this (yes, I know it's not July yet) Anyway, a lot of stuff here is from crewcuts or gapkids because 1) I'm mini sized and 2) sometimes shopping in the kids department drives the price down.

I think the scarfs and the tights are from topshop, the messenger bag is from Columbia Sportswear and the hand cream is L'occitane. Which I use to keep my hands from cracking and bleeding. Coxswain problems. Also, this is a special edition that benefits a charity that prevents illnesses that cause blindness in poor countries.

WHO'S In Charge Here?
So, this charming little set here is my assortment of coxing gear for summer. Coxing gear for summer is basically the same as coxing gear any other time, minus the zillion layers, plus sunscreen. I know this is summer, but I HATE wearing shorts. The older I get the less I like them. Maybe because my legs looked normal when I was ten, but now I still have ten year old legs on a 20 year old body- well... ten year old legs on a fourteen year old body with an eight year old brain. Haha, just kidding. But sometimes. SO even though it's summer, I'm wearing sweatpants or leggings whenever I can get away with it which is fairly often, because I cox early in the morning or in the evening. I think a capri length sweatpant or leggings satisfies summer weather requirements, while also not being shorts. These ones are from areopostale.
A bunch of pens or permanent markers are a neccesity. I say a bunch, because believe me, you will lose all of them by the end of the season. Other must-haves are a sox hat, sports tape, and bandaids. I also carry a neosporin spray with me. Basically, a first aid kit. My adjustable wrench is basically my prized possession. Weird? No- it's normal, I'm a coxswain. Sunglasses are definitely needed for summer coxing. I need a better pair! Sometimes I get a major glare in mine and can't see where I'm going for a few seconds. Obviously, a light t-shirt is the best for a warmer day, and a fleecey shirt to keep warm. (Don't judge. It's cold on the water in the morning.) Flip flops, so I can get away with it.
Also, this notebook is pretty perfect for a coxswain, especially one with an attitude and a sense of humor. My underarmour string bag to shove everything in, and of course, a cox box (duh).
This is for practice. Packing for regattas is different and, for me at least, way more involved.
Consider this my back to school must haves list.
What? School supplies?
What do you guys think I do with my time? Homework??

Hemingway
Farewell to Arms is possibly my favorite book ever. Ever. I'm not exactly sure why, because, in true Hemingway fashion, the story is both plotless and depressing. Still, I love it.
I think it's just the words.
How Hemingway gets every little possible impact out of every little possible word he uses, which, usually aren't a lot. To be honest, I would have to say I read Hemingway more for the cadence of his stories than their actual plotlines.
Oh.
Excuse me.
My nerd is showing.
The easiest way to summarize this is as follows
Life is rough.
In my mind, Hemingway comes the closest of any author to approximating this without overdoing it.
End.
I'm a nerd.

Uniform
So it's come to my attention that I'm actually an adult and leaving the house in hoodies and sweatpants is fine and all, but every so often I want to not be mistaken for a thirteen year old (I'm looking at you, Jet Blue. SO flying US Air from now on)
so that's when I pop out my navy blazer. It's a three quarter sleeve from H&M and I like to pair it with just normal bootcut casual jeans and a grey or white t shirt underneath.I have honestly no idea what brand my jeans are or where they are from, they're a hand me down from my sister(s?) I wear a lot of ribbon/d ring belts because unlike leather belts you can keep on tightening or loosening them as much as you want. The one I am wearing right now is LL Bean but the one in the picture is Brooks Brothers. I'm pretty sure it's menswear but, hence is the beauty of d-ring belts.
Red Sox hat and stopwatch of course, go with everything. (I'm a coxswain even when I'm not coxing). Same with my Sperry's. I'm in love.
Speaking of love, I spend WAY too much on skincare. That's Origins Checks and Balances foaming face wash, Perfect World Tea Tree Moisturizer with SPF, and Kiehls Youth Regenerating Cream.
Why a 21 year old who's consistently mistaken for a thirteen year old needs youth regenerating cream I don't know, but I'm convinced when I'm forty it will have paid off.
Everything else on here is a wish list:
Ray bans (ohmygosh they would be such a good investment for a coxie!)
I'd love that Kate Spade knot ring. The one I'm currently wearing is from target. I'm pretty sure it's rusted onto my thumb at this point even though it was once nice!
I don't have a smart phone, and much as I want one, I know how hard I am on phones. But I still really love looking at Iphone cases.

also I really like that Vineyard Vines makeup case, but to be honesty, I don't wear enough makeup to justify buying it!
However, I COULD justify the Lilly Pullitzer tumbler. I could carry lemon water with me everywhere. Mmmm, lemon water.
Ok. Done now. I should go at least pretend to be paying attention in this god awful class.

Florida Sunshine
Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, a blizzard is predicted and the entire North East is freaking out!
I am so sick of cold weather :( .
I'm always cold.
I have enough trouble dealing with airconditioned buildings when it's 80 degrees out. This "winter" business is a bit much.
Fortunately, all I have to do is make it through February, and then I get a week in Florida! Well, it's not exactly free vacation (lol) it's our spring training trip, but it's good enough! I'll take it!
Actually, I love the spring training trip. It's a lot of fun
I'm also in love with everything here.
Madewell may be the death of me.
