Help
Just bought this. So far, good. I need something with beads in it because otherwise my face doesn't feel exfoliated.  Is it worth getting proactive?
My face is a MESS.
I'm babysitting tonight- but literally, I can't walk in to somebody's house looking like this!!
I'm having a gross day.  Uck.  Going home and taking a very long shower after this.  Maybe even a bath. Aren't you jealous my dorm has a tub?
honestly, today is not my day.

Oh LIfe

It's bigger/it's bigger than you and you are not me/ the lengths that I will go to/the distance in your eyes....

Hm. No, wait, that's not it.
I apologize for the interlude of Losing my Religion.  (#sorryI'mnotsorry)?

My life is CRAZY.
Everything is run, run, run all the time.  And partly, this is my fault.  I don't chill out enough.  I get over-committed and overstressed and have to do everything at once.  Plus I'm bad at saying "no".  It's like I have this message that I should always be doing something "productive" and faster is always better, and if I were really a good student, a good daughter, a good friend, a good coxswain then I would do all these things without breaking a sweat.

Deep breath.

My life is crazy because that's the way I like it.  Nobody told me I had to be in Amnesty International, Active Minds, MUN, yoga club, dance class, hillel, and cox.
I can drop whatever I want if it gets to be too much.
Except coxing, because hello, that's my life.
Or Amnesty, because I'm committed to being the SGA rep.
Or dance class, because I'm registered.  But everything else is totally optional.
Except for, you know, school.  And work...

ok, this calming down stuff is failing.  Nothing is optional.
Oh dear...

Ok, I'm going to go make a list of what needs to be done for tomorrow and do those things.  Possibly a nap would be good.  I get so tired around this time.  I've been up since seven, doing pilates, going to the leadership conference, lunch, and walking down to the boathouse  with the other coxswain to go in the launch with our coach upstream. (you would think at least I'd be familiar with it  by now?) I know it was helpful but I'm too tired to be positive.  Watched movies with friends last night, one of which was The Haunting in Conneticut, so you better believe I went to sleep late with all the lights on.  Ok. Ok.
Nap first then homework.

All Weather Wear

all weather wear

One thing I've figured out from long drives on the turnpike from Pittsburgh to Boston (that's about 12 hours, ladies and gents.  11 if you don't stop at all) is that once you get about an hour north of New York City the weather starts to get unpredictable.
This week is a great example.  I've been freezing, sweating, and freezing again all within one 12 hour period.
It's pretty warm today.
How's anyone ever supposed to know what to wear?
That's my one complaint with beautiful New England.  And, as my friends from Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine like to say, this is just Boston.  The weather down here is balmy.
I don't know about that one...
Anyway, I've got down a pretty good system at this point.  It goes sort of like this, jeans, tank top, flannel, tennis shoes, stick a cardigan in my backpack in case it gets really cold and need an extra layer.
Flannels are pretty useful and you can pretty much get them anywhere (just make sure, if you live somewhere cold, to buy a flannel shirt, and not a plaid which can look really similar but is much thinner). I'm pretty sure my favorite was a gift from a friend, but I think she got it at Marshalls or JCPennys.  Also, I have a few of my dads, which require a lot more layers underneath, being that they're huge.
Jeans the one in this set (which, I am dying for) are from Sierra trading post.  I hate buying jeans though, because they're nearly always too big or if they're  not too big, they're way to low cut.  Hello.  I HATE LOW CUT JEANS.  This is why a lot of my jeans are from children's departments.  Particularly the boys.
True story: One of my friend was like "no wonder your jeans are too big for you, they're a (size) 14."
and i was like "yeah, thats a children's size"
so I bought a 12 from target and everybody was happy.
The end.
But that was a total tangent.
Also, belts are great.
For, see above reason.
I like d-ring belts because depending on the day and how you're feeling you can make it tighter or looser or whatever.
I basically only own ribbon belts.  So yes, they're very preppy- looking.
tanks/beaters from pretty much anywhere.  The one in the set is from American Eagle.
Superga I just got these tennis shoes on a great sale and I am totally in love with them.  They're comfy and cute and my favorite color, which happens to go with my mint
Jackie Cardigan (jcrew) This is pretty thin, so I like to keep it in my backpack.  If the flannel is too heavy and I still want a layer, this is perfect, or if I want something between my flannel and arms (sometimes that's too itchy) this'll work and keep me extra warm.
Like Mom always says, "You need to layer!"
Speaking of  backpacks , I am in LOVE with this Victorinox one which is totally "borrowed" from my mother, but it fits all my stuff and is super comfy and doesn't look too kiddy, which is always a plus.  When you're me, anyway.
ok next order of business-- coffee.

Monday 16 September 2013

I'm done with classes at 12:30.
Today would be a seriously good day to go back to my room, curl up in my pajamas, and nap for the next 48 hours.
I am so cold I may or may not be seriously considering pouring my coffee down my shirt before I go to Hist. of Renaissance.
Of course, it's not like my being cold is really anything new.
I should have worn a thicker shirt.  I'm wearing long sleeves, but my shirt is kind of just a loose, not very thick plaid.
Why even make plaids that aren't as thick as cinderblock?  Who does that?
Ugh.
I can't wait to go back to my dorm, heat up my potatoes and take a nap.  And a really hot shower.
And maybe do some yoga.  I just have to survive one more class today. This is definitely a Monday.  Side note-There's a girl sitting next to me wearing a sweater with elbow patches- I love elbow patches! Sweaters with elbow patches are the best.  Next to tweed blazers with elbow patches.  It's my goal to own one of those one day.

Like this, but preferably 9 zillion dollars cheaper.  Don't worry.  It has elbow patches.  I checked.

Calm Recipe

Anxiety?
Not with this!

1 part rainy mood
       +
1 part solo piano radio (Pandora)

Mix well.  Adjust to desired volumes.  I like rainy mood slightly softer than the music, which I think works well, because rainy mood is more consistent noise than solo piano radio.

I'm not sure how to explain that well.

Try it out, and see what you think.  This is my favorite studying Pandora station, with or without Rainy Mood.

http://www.rainymood.com

http://www.pandora.com

(type in solo piano radio.  It's a pre-made station).

IN SEASON

Hallelujah!   No more erging!
Well, no more watching rowers erg.
Ok, I did hop on the ergs a few times.  It's hard for coxswains to be inside.  We never know if we should be coxing, or working out with the rowers.  Especially when the coaches aren't there to tell us what we should be doing!
We rigged up all our boats this morning which went... pretty smoothly, all things considered.  There are so many novices!
I love fall season.  I love fall season soooo much.  Which is good because I get INCREDIBLY stressed out come spring racing season.  Not looking forward to that, let me tell you.
What if I just ended up in Scotland, doing study abroad?  Do you think they'd let me back onto the team my senior year?

Haha,
Knowing my coaches, probably not.
Darn.  I thought Scotland would be the perfect solution...
Anyway,

Lashon Hara

Hello Guys and Dolls,

Yom Kippur starts this evening at sundown... when I will be babysitting.
Frankly, I think babysitting is enough atonement for any wrongs I've done in the past 21 years of life, but maybe G-d doesn't see it that way.

But my G-d is a sensible one.  A rational one.  A one who understands what's in the heart of a 21 year old college student with too much ambition for her own good.

So am I fasting?
That's a yes, but I might not do a complete fast.  In fact, I'm pretty sure I won't.  I'm pretty sure I'll do a liquid fast, because if I don't wash my pills down with something I get sick to my stomach and vomit.  I've actually almost passed out a few times.  So I think I'll at least drink water and milk throughout the day (almond milk- I hate real milk).  They are both pretty thin, so I don't feel bad about it.  I know some people don't drink water, but frankly I think that's dangerous, especially for athletes.  I know a coxswain isn't really an athlete, but if my vocal chords get to dehydrated I could lose my voice and for a coxswain, no voice= BAD.

Anyway, like I said, G-d understands.

Even for non-religious reasons, I'm very excited for Yom Kippur this year.  It comes at the perfect time.  It's halfway through the calendar year, which means, if your New Years resolutions are slacking (I can't even remember what mine are) this gives me a perfect chance to get back on track.  Who do I want to be in the coming year?  What have I done well?  What do I need to do better.

Personally, one thing I need to do is gossip less!
I'm not really a huge gossip, but I have been getting caught up in a lot of crew drama lately- (of course!)
and I've been more loose-lipped then maybe I ought to have been.

And here's the hard part.
The Torah says that you should only think positively of people because then you will say positive things.  If you think negatively of people than the things you say are negative, even if you try to say nice things.
How can I think positively of people who are mean to me?  How can I think positively of people who treat me with disrespect or contempt?
I guess I have my work cut out for me.
I'll be spending my holiday trying to puzzle this one out.

Best wishes to everyone.

this religion stuff is hard...

Emme

Fall Skin

Untitled #49

Daily Basics

I go for a natural look of course.  I need a little more moisturizer the colder it gets out, but I still use a massive amount of spf, regardless of the season.  The other difference is that I use blush rather than bronzer.

1 Cetaphil: I can not say enough about this!  There's a reason Cetaphil has such a great reputation.  I kid you not, it makes skin  PERFECT. And I have high standards for blemishlessness.

2: Kiehls with Spf.  This is another must have.  Even without anything else, Cetaphil and kiehls are enough to make great skin.  Kiehls is a bit pricey, but it is so, so worth it.

3 BB Cream: Maybelline Dream Fresh.  This is good coverage and it has SPF, so it's a dails.  Maybe SPF moisturizer and SPF BB Cream is overdoing it, but on my skin?... Probably not.

4 Tarte Cheekstain: In any color.  All colors are perfect, even if they look intense in the tube.  I tried this on at Sephora this weekend- I can see that it's definitely going to be a must have.

5 ELF Makeup setting spray: I'm not entirely sure if this has a purpose, but it's cooling and refreshing.\

6: And chapstick, duh! Otherwise my lips would be cracked and bleeding.

Other things I use if I have time are clear mascara, bronze or copper eyeshadow, or illuminating highlighter on my cheek and brow bones.  Not necessary though.

Monday Blues

Ignore the weird angle.  I'm still learning how to take a good selfie.

Tank: Crew spring break training trip
Jeans:  Target Kids
Moccasins: Old Navy
Sunglasses: Fossil- Borrowed from big Sister H.
Keeping it casual here.

Back to School and Updates

So, I've been back at school for one whole week.  So far, so good.
My classes are History of the Renaissance, Introduction to International Politics, History of Sexuality and the Family, and Issues in Politics.  All of them are required except Renaissance History.  That's just for fun.  I need some intro Poli sci courses for my minor and I need History of Sexuality & Family as a history major requirement. Classes are good so far, but I won't lie, it looks like it's going to be a tough semester.  I'm slightly ahead in the reading for my classes because... well... I didn't really have anything better to do this week.  As it turns out, our season isn't starting until the sixteenth(?) I know!
So I've been trying to find my coach in this book.
She told me she was in one of the photographs and dared me to find it.  So far I've been failing miserably, but on the bright side, I've read it cover to cover so at least when I give it back to her I can tell her that much.
We have a bunch of new novices, but I haven't met most of them yet.  We have a new coxswain though (yikes, I know) but she seems like a really sweet girl!
Other than school and crew, I saw We're the Millers and went out Saturday night with some friends.  I also got a new sweater (yes, it's a boys sweater, before you ask.
I'm also wearing boys jeans.  #NOJUDGEMENTZONE
That's my friend in the background of the Vera Bradley Store.  I've been really super-social for myself lately.  I did a scavenger hunt with my friends on campus Friday night, which to be honest was pretty darn lame, but we had a fun time not caring about it at all. Which drove the event facilitators crazy... sorry, guys.
here's a blurry picture of my dorm and pointe shoes.  I'll post a full dorm picture as soon as I clean my room.

Anyway, gotta get ready.
Big day tomorrow.
INCLUDING SWIM TEST
(EEW. Thanks again, crew)
