Soundtrack to Your Quarter Life Crisis

By which I mean my quarter life crisis

1: The Middle- Jimmy Eat World

This is possibly the most reassuring song ever written

2: Be My Escape- Reliant K
for those moments of sheer desperation

3: This is Not Your Year- The Weepies

for those days (weeks? months?  years?) when you just can't win.

4: The Con- Tegan and Sara

Honestly, this one may just be because I like Tegan and Sara

5: Where I Stood- Missy Higgins

For all your boy drama.

6:Metal Heart- Cat Power

no life crisis soundtrack would be complete without Cat Power

7: Rise- Azure Ray

this song.
I can't even....

8: Bruised- Jacks Mannequin (acoustic)

I will never ever make a playlist that does not include a Jack's Mannequin song

9: Matt Stansberry- Pull Yourself Together

mix well.
Add ice cream
Repeat until ailment is relieved.

You're welcome.

Quarter Life Crisis!

Alternative Title:
What the F*** am I Doing?

This is a legitimate question.
Ok, so I'm a history major.  That's all well and good, but school has the capacity to hold my interest maybe for about one minute.  On a good day.  Most of the time I'm just dragging myself out of bed to make it to class late.
I really don't know what I'm going to do after college or in what way a history degree could actually be helpful.
People keep telling me I should teach but hello?  I barely made it through grade school a first time!  I'm not going back!

Then there's crew.
As you probably know, if you've been reading this blog, I've been having issues with crew lately.
And because this is public I can't really go into specifics, but suffice to say that I've been struggling with authority figures for a good 3 years now and I'm starting to doubt my abilities in this sport because of that.  I'm starting to worry that I won't be able to make it as a coach because I'll have a bad reputation.  I know I'm a coxswain, but I feel that I'm in a position where I have no power and I'm just a scapegoat.

So I'm don't feel that I'm doing a great job for whatever reasons.  And other things that I used to do, I've given up so I could focus on school or crew.

I don't really even know who I am anymore.

I don't know what I'm doing or what I want to do
It's all a bit much, really.

Sigh

So Into

Right now, I'm really loving a couple things:

Scottish Breakfast Tea
I like English Breakfast a lot, but I like this even better.  It tastes more intense/ bitter than English breakfast, which makes me think that it might have a higher caffeine content.  In the morning, this is a good thing.

Superga
So I got these sneakers at the beginning of the school year.  I really like the way they look.  For workout reasons (mostly spinning, I don't necessarily believe in non-yoga forms of workout...) I wear Onitsuka tiger that I got as hand me downs from my sister, or New Balance running sneakers that I've had for awhile.  I don't really like shoes that mud, which I know, is weird, but they feel too chunky and heavy.  I always feel like my shoes make me less coordinated than I really am!  That's why I like the Onitsuka, they're pretty light but I really like Superga for class/work

Gap City Flat
I wear these all the time.  They are really comfy.  It feels like I'm not wearing anything! They're so soft and comfy and they roll up.  I only have black, but I'm thinking of investing in about a million more pairs because they pretty much go with everything and feel like wearing cushy socks.

Yoga!
Wait, I know you're going to be like "wait, this is nothing new"
But I've been feeling really off lately.  Just strange and mopey.  But then I realized I hadn't been doing yoga in awhile, so I've been trying to get back to it.
That made me feel a lot better.
So, moral of the story:
Don't forget to take care of yourself.
For me, that means not sacrificing yoga hours for long hours at the gym
I know that might seem kind of confusing
But what I've observed that's very personal to my own body is that I just need yoga even more than I need running or lifting or biking.  My body just craves yoga.  And my mind, for that matter.
True life: without yoga, I'd go crazy.

I don't have much to say here- this could be my Hanukkah/Christmas wish list! How cute is that pajama shirt? I would probably wear it day and night.
On a less material note, I love this quote.  It's corny, but the reason I love it so much is that it reminds me of my grandma!  She's just like Audrey and she's a very elegant woman!  She has that air about her that some women from older generations have- grace- or something, I suppose. I love my grandma so much.  I'm fortunate for having her in my life, especially because my relationships with other family members are tense or nonexistent.  I have a very messy background.
Most of my grandparents are dead- my maternal grandmother is my only surviving grandparent, but my relationships with my grandparents have been positive, which is a good thing, because particularly my mother's parents, were responsible for a lot of my upbringing.
So, moral of the story,
grandparents are special people.
