Room Emergency

I have a confession to make.

I am TERRIBLE at organization.
My 1/2 of the room is a mess, most of the time.  It's not that I don't clean.  I clean all the time.  I clean way more than my roommate.  It's just that things never stay clean for longer than 2 minutes.
Literally.
If I were a superhero, cleanliness would be my weakness, not kryptonite.

But I'm having a room emergency.

One of my best friends is coming to visit me for the weekend (Friday through Monday- superdeluxe weekend) and my room is a little...ugly.  I've cleaned up, so it doesn't look too bad, but my challenge will be keeping it clean until 9:00 tonight.

And organization?  Forget it!  Most of the time, getting things cleaned up i.e. not on the floor, or covering my desk takes such an effort that I stop caring what goes in what drawer.

Side note:

I really need to swiffer more.  The floor is kind of gross.

Given, that's partly my roommate's fault, but as I have a swiffer, I can't say there's that much excuse for me not using it more

Anyone have any good tips on how to get organized for people who have trouble with the whole organization concept?

Music Loving

Music Loving

I know, I know, I have a very odd taste.  Or, actually, the music itself isn't that odd, just the combination of music I listen to together is.

*Sigh*.  Polyvore will be the death of me, I know it.  It's like... fashion porn, or something.  No, fashion gambling.  No, wait, what's really addictive?  Fashion chocolate?  Fashion caffeine?  Fashion heroine?
Ok.  Sorry, I'm done now.  (But actually,  wouldn't some of those be cool label names?)   When I have my first big girl job I want to wear something like this.  I mean, I guess that's pretty casual but if I work for a magazine or something (hint hint nudge nudge wink wink NYLON PLEASE HIRE ME!) than it would;t be out of place at all.  Because currently my job, much as I love it, involves the oldest baggiest jeans and sweatpants and shoes I can find so it won't matter if a dog pees on them.  Seriously.

Also I recently watched the Devil Wear Prada (it was on t.v two days ago).  It got me thinking, I might be kind of good at that job.  Also, how unfair is it that Anne Hathaway totally doesn't appreciate the awesomeness of her job and steals Emily Blunt's chance to go to Paris.  Come on, the last time Anne Hathaway was a likeable character was in the Princess Diaries and she's been so annoying ever since!  But Emily Blunt is such a good actress and super pretty, so you know...
Plus there's nothing funnier than snubbing  people in a British accent (hence the appeal of Maggie Smith on Downton Abbey.  Or really anything else she's ever been in)\

Ok, back to real life.

Kate Squared

What is it with Britain and ridiculously good looking girls named Kate?
Let's see, there's Kate Moss, Kate Middleton, Kate Winslett to name a few.
In case you haven't already hears, I love, love, love, love, love Kate Middleton. Well, actually I love the whole royal family, in that way that is kind of weird if you're not a British citizen.  Know what I mean?  Also, as a fellow ginger, I appreciate Harry making those freckles work.  And the queen is adorable.  But actually, I don't have much to say.  My point isn't even about the royal family.

It's about my other favorite Kate.
That's right.
 Ms Kate Moss.
Kate Moss at Glastonbury
This is probably my favorite picture of her, except some from when she was very young.  Mostly because I love everything going on here. Vest as a shirt, short grey shorts, wellies?
Her look is rock n' roll but polished in that specifically British way.
Has she ever worn an ugly outfit?
I'm asking this as I'm wearing yoga capris with a hole in them and an oversized bright red field hockey sweatshirt.
Can I have her stylist?
Or better yet, can she be my stylist?

At least field hockey is Kate Middleton- Approved.

PS:  You know who else looked great at Glastonbury?
Emma Watson.
Seriously, she should just dress like this everyday.

Ballet Blisters and Apartment Hunting

Ballet Blisters, Apartment Hunting, and LSATs

I am DEAD ready for winter to be over.  Actually, I'm kind of ready for break to be over.  I'm completely caught up on the most recent seasons of Rizzoli and Isles and Downton Abbey.  I've reread all the books I want to and I have HUGE ballet blisters.  Literally just open skin on my toes.
Well, at least I can relate to my girls.  (My rowers).  They get gnarly hand blisters.  When I was a rower, I was terrible with blisters.  I had super sensitive skin, or something, but obviously not so much coxing.
I spent the day with my sister looking at different apartments she was thinking of renting in Boston and Cambridge.  I'm not sure how helpful I was, as my sister and I have opposite opinions on practically everything.
It was pretty cold out.  My skin is getting pretty wind chapped.  Well... honestly, it doesn't take much for my skin to get wind chapped.  So, I'm dipping in to my mom's Pond's Cream tonight.  I also really love the scent of the Japanese Cherry Blossom Lotion from Bath and Body Works.  I buy something with that scent every year for my sister, M, for Christmas.  I definitely need some really heavy duty stuff to
Oh, and the most exciting part of today, I got my very own adjustable wrench (FINALLY!).  I feel like a real, live coxswain now.  Oh, and I got one of those keychain, springy wristbands for it, too (thanks for the tip, T.)
I am SO ready for the training trip.  Florida here I come!

Average Life of Emme Pt 2

Untitled #85

So, this is what I do when I want to clean up a little.  I've recently come into a windfall of plaid shirts (my friend was trying to get rid of them) and I go with some button downs when I need to feel put together.   Of course I'll be rocking a tank top underneath them.

All my shoes are flat.  I literally cannot walk in heels.  I blame this entirely on ballet training.  I don't know why, but believe me, a point shoe is prettier than a heel, anyway.  Literally, every shoe on this page was camel, until I realized that well... every shoe was camel.  I like to wear colors I can't pull of as clothes for my ballet flats, so that's yellow, red, orange, and hot pink.

Also, I am DYING for riding boots.  I have been dying for riding boots for about a year but most of them are upwards of $250.  I cannot afford half of that!  But these pair are only $33 from old navy.  I've got to get to old navy stat!
I go with skinny jeans.  I like kid's target or gap.  For gap, I go kids or adults.

Also, I love the way my nails look in that super-dark red when I'm typing on the computer.

An Average Day of Emme

Untitled #84

Looks something like this.  My bean boots are way less nice than these ones though.  They were my mom's from sometime in the 60's.  Or so she says.  Probably more like 1980, but whatever.  The point is they're old.

I got these flannel lined jeans for Christmas and they are so comfortable, despite many friends pleas that I stop wearing men's jeans.  However, technically, I do not wear men's jeans.  I wear boys jeans.  There's a difference.  Kid's (boy's) jeans fit.  So when you get down to it, they are so warm and so soft and so perfect that I could sleep in them.  It rains a lot in the wonderful world of Boston, so the boots and rain jacket are a must.
Tank tops are a main staple of my wardrobe regardless of the season, and a Boston Red Sox hoodie might just pull me out of my winter gloom.  Probably not considering last season, but what can you do?
I like the Tom's hat.  I lost my Red Sox hat (I know.  It's a disaster.  How am I ever going to cox again?)
I tend to wear boys  clothes a lot in the winter (ok, summer too) as a sort of armor against the cold.  What can I say?  They may just be made better.
The jewelry is my favorite part, definitely the one I spend the most on.  I want to look for some stuff just like it (going to Newbury street tomorrow!  back to school shopping?) And the light pink nail polish is just a finishing touch but I would do any neutral.  I also really like the really dark reds Essie makes like Wicked and bordeaux.  Although currently my nails are light pink with a slightly darker pink layer of sparkle on top.  The sparkle polish has held up really well although it's not my usual thing, it was definitely festive for Christmas.  This is seriously what I will be wearing until June.  As we know, it does not get warm in Boston until the middle of June when it all of a sudden becomes unbearably hot.

2013 Resolutions

2013 Resolutions

I know you're supposed to hate making New Year's Resolutions, but I kind of like it.  Maybe because it's a form of making a list, and I'm list obsessed. Or maybe it's because I'm a self-improvement fanatic.  This is what is born of watching Miracle and Seabiscuit too many times in your youth.  Thanks for that, Mom.Yep, my resolutions are mostly health related for the new year.  I'm feeling kind of gross.   You know the feeling.  Honestly,  I've been pretty healthy considering it was the Holiday season (plus  a few weird late night meals consisting entirely of carbs while studying for finals.)     I'm not terribly unhealthy now, I'm getting a lot of exercise and I eat fairly healthy, but I think I could use a more balanced diet (read: not skipping meals at weird times, eating fresh vegetables, and drinking more water, which is a problem I have.  I get very dehydrated sometimes.
Getting organized really has to happen.  But guess who is terrible at it?  That's right.  Me.  I am so, so, so, unorganized so this is definitely going to be a challenge.  I feel like I'm always running off somewhere to do something or passing out exhausted I have zero time for organization. But, I also know it's really important and one of those things that grown ups do.  Also, my roommate is getting seriously mad at me.
Sleeping enough will always be a challenge.  I'm one of those people who needs to go eight hours minimum. I function alright without sleep, like I can cox after a night where I don't sleep at all (can and do) but eventually I get run down physically and emotionally.  If I'm too tired I've been known to explode for no good reason.  I did not sleep much for the  last two months of the semester.  So maybe there's some way that my resolution to get organized can help me manage my class work well enough that all-nighters won't need to happen.  Or at least not as frequently.

Oh darn- another resolution:
RAISE GPA.

I was a straight A-student pre-transfer.  Now I'm more of a straight B.  Bs are ok but I expect more from myself.

I know.

I'm a pain in the butt.

Well, those are my New Year's Resolutions.
